Dog Obedience Training
There are no quick fixes to effectively train your dog. People are fooling themselves to think a dog can be properly trained in a short timeframe. Training is a lifetime process for any well behaved dog. Teaching a dog to sit can take place relatively quickly however if you do not repeatedly work with this simple command daily your dog will generally forget or just not respond to your command. Using your dogs learned commands just once a day will keep your dog finely tuned for life. Time, patience and learning proper training techniques will help you and your dog achieve success.

Lucky Dawgs 6-week training classes are scheduled on Saturdays; the 2007 schedule is listed below. Training consists of both indoor and outdoor instruction. Look for our weekday class schedule…which will be posted in the future.

Duration of each session is approximately one to one and a half hours in length and class size is limited to 6 dogs. The class size creates an intimate atmosphere, giving each dog and their owner plenty of one on one attention that ultimately creates a very positive experience for our clients. The classes are highly interactive allowing for individual specific client questions before, during and after each class. We encourage all clients to bring their dogs early to play in our enclosed 8,000 sq.ft. outdoor exercise facility to burn off some of the excess energy prior to class. This area is also available after class and provides an off lease socialization process for the dogs.

Helpful tips for all dog owners:

  • Never scold your dog for unwanted behavior. This creates a negative reward towards that unwanted behavior.
  • Crate training is extremely helpful in house breaking your dog and can be used to break unwanted behavior when used properly.
  • When teaching your dog commands, consider their attention spans for effective learning sessions; approximately 5 minutes is usually a puppy's limit and older dogs can work up to10 minutes.
  • Act excited when training your dog which engages your dogs' mental desire to please you and enhance their learning experience. Remember one of your teachers who bored you in class. The same principle applies here.
  • Training is a lifetime commitment for the well behaved dog.
  • Patience is a virtue for effective training.
  • Remember…Mistakes happen and that is how the learning process evolves!
